What we can & can't promise.

We're a marketplace, not a middleman

Sniffy connects independent buyers and sellers. Except where we clearly offer it, we don't personally inspect, hold, or authenticate the bottles that change hands. The people on the other side of your trade are real individuals — most are wonderful, but we can't control how any single person behaves.

Our AI is a helper, not a guarantee

Our computer-vision checks confirm a photo looks like a real bottle, flag likely fakes, and block AI-generated or stock images. That catches a lot — but it is not proof of authenticity and it isn't perfect.

• It can miss a well-made counterfeit, especially from a photo alone.
• It can't confirm the exact fill level, batch, or condition of what's actually in the box.
• Like any AI, it can occasionally get something wrong in either direction.

Treat the "verified" badge as a helpful signal that reduces risk — not a certificate of authenticity.

AI price suggestions are automated estimates based on marketplace data — they are not appraisals, valuations, or guarantees of what your bottle is worth or will sell for. Jenny, our AI assistant, can help triage questions and disputes but can make mistakes; all final dispute decisions are made by human staff, and nothing Jenny says is a binding decision or promise by Sniffy. The Decant Directory lists independent third-party shops; those purchases happen off Sniffy and are not covered by escrow, the Protection Fund, or our dispute process.

We can't guarantee a perfect trade

Escrow, boxing and unboxing videos, batch-code checks, the inspection window, disputes, community jurors, strikes, and bonds are all designed to make trades safer and to give you real recourse when something goes wrong. Together they work well. But no combination of tools can promise that:

• every bottle is 100% authentic, full, or exactly as described;
• every package arrives on time and undamaged;
• every person follows through the way they should;
• every dispute resolves the way you'd hoped.

Dispute decisions are made by real people weighing the evidence. We aim for fairness, but outcomes are judgment calls, not guarantees.

You share the responsibility

The single biggest thing that keeps you safe is using the tools we give you. Please:

• Keep every conversation and payment inside Sniffy — off-platform deals have zero protection.
• Turn on and actually film the boxing / unboxing videos — they're your evidence.
• Check the batch code against the listing during your inspection window before releasing payment.
• Inspect carefully and open a dispute before the window closes if anything's off.
• Pack generously and ship with tracking.

Sniffy is brand new and still evolving. Features may change, and occasionally something may not work as intended. We're improving constantly, and the fastest way to help us is to tell us when something feels off.
