Is Sniffy legit and safe to use?

Yes. Every Sniffy trade is protected by Stripe escrow: the buyer's payment is held and is not released to the seller until the buyer confirms the bottle arrived as described, or the 48-hour inspection window passes with no dispute. Shipping is prepaid, tracked and insured for the full sale value (up to $5,000), sellers can be required to film a boxing video as proof of what went in the box, and every listing photo is reviewed before it goes live (we check photos, not authenticity). If something goes wrong, disputes are reviewed by the Sniffy team, and buyers who are in the right are refunded to their original payment method. Trades are paid in the app only: deals paid outside Sniffy are not protected and never qualify for the Sniffy Protection Vault.

What are Sniffy's fees?

Sellers pay a 10% fee on sales. Shipping is the exact price of the cheapest insured, tracked USPS label from the seller's ZIP to the buyer's (typically $8–11), shown to the buyer before they pay with nothing added — unless the seller includes shipping in the listing price, in which case the buyer pays nothing for shipping and the label cost comes out of the seller's payout. Swaps cost $5 plus an insured label at its real price per side ($0 with your own label), on top of a refundable deposit. Buyers pay no Sniffy platform fee, only a small card-processing fee (about 3% + $0.30).

How does swapping fragrances on Sniffy work?

Both traders place a refundable deposit into escrow — $25 by default, or a full-value deposit from $10 to $2,000 — plus a $5 swap fee and a prepaid, insured USPS label at its real price (the cheapest ground rate for your box, or $0 if you use your own label). Both sides film a boxing video (on by default for swaps), ship, and confirm receipt. Once both bottles arrive as described, the deposits are refunded automatically. If one side never ships, the other can claim their deposit.

How does Sniffy verify that fragrances are authentic?

Listing photos are reviewed by AI that identifies the fragrance and flags images that are not genuine photos of a real bottle. Sellers are prompted to photograph the bottle bottom and batch code, plus an under-the-atomizer shot, which is where counterfeits are most often exposed. Buyers can look batch codes up independently, and any listing can be reported for review. The AI photo check is a strong signal, not an authentication guarantee: Sniffy never physically inspects bottles, so always do your own due diligence.

Trade in three steps

We've removed every friction point. From bottle to buyer in minutes.

List Your Bottle

Snap a photo. Our AI screens it, checks it against the real bottle, and auto-fills the details. Set a price, accept offers, or open it to trades.

Match & Connect

Filter by house, notes, or size. Our smart matching surfaces bottles you'll actually want — then message the seller directly.

Trade with Protection

Funds are held in escrow until you confirm receipt (or the 48-hour inspection window passes). Videos, deposits and our strike system keep every trade clean.

AI Photo Check

Every photo,
checked.

Our computer vision model checks every photo the moment it's uploaded — confirming it's a real photo of a real bottle, comparing it against what the genuine fragrance should look like, and blocking AI-generated images before a listing can ever go live. A strong signal, not a certificate of authenticity. See how it fits into the full picture in Trust & Safety below.

Protection

Built for trust

Our entire platform is engineered around keeping every trade safe, every time.

Only genuine bottles. Every fragrance listed on Sniffy has to be a real product from the house named in the listing. Imitation and counterfeit goods are prohibited, flagged in photo review at upload, removed on sight and grounds for a permanent ban — read the authenticity policy.

Genuine Bottles Only

Every listing must be a real product from the house named on it. Imitation and counterfeit goods are prohibited, flagged in photo review at upload, removed the moment they are reported, and grounds for a permanent ban with the buyer refunded in full. Authenticity policy →

Protected Payments

Funds are held securely and only released once the buyer confirms receipt and condition — or automatically after the 48-hour inspection window if no dispute is opened. Neither party can touch the money mid-trade. Trades are paid in the app only — deals paid outside Sniffy aren't protected.

Protection Vault

Money set aside for members who did everything right and still got burned: research, lots of photos (under the atomizer, the batch code), payment in the app, boxing and unboxing videos. Meet every requirement and it can cover you up to the full amount. See the requirements →

Strike System

Three strikes for bad behavior — misrepresented listings, no-shows, or fraud — and you're out permanently. No second chances for dishonest traders.

Verified Reviews

Only completed trade partners can leave reviews. No spam, no manipulation. Ratings you can actually trust.

Dispute Resolution

Disputes are reviewed by the Sniffy team using the chat, photos, boxing and unboxing videos, tracking and batch codes. The money stays held until it's decided, and the decision is binding. Did everything right and still got burned? Request a Protection Vault review from the dispute.

Secure Messaging

All trade conversations happen inside Sniffy, so every negotiation is on record. Report or block anyone from the thread and the team reviews it. Messages arranging Venmo, Cash App, Zelle or PayPal are blocked — Sniffy trades are paid in-app only.

Photo Verification & Authenticity Screening

Every listing needs a real photo of your actual bottle. Our AI rejects AI-generated images and anything that isn't a real bottle, then compares the cap, bottle shape and label against what the genuine fragrance should look like and flags anything that looks off. A strong signal, not a certificate of authenticity — always get lots of photos, the under-the-atomizer close-up and the batch code. Due diligence →

Boxing & Unboxing Videos

Sellers film the item being packed; buyers film it being opened. On by default for trades, and either side can require or request them on any trade — they're the evidence disputes are decided on.

The Sniffy Bond

Sellers can put real money on the line to show they stand behind a listing. Trade honestly and it's refunded — lose a dispute and it's forfeited to the Protection Vault.

🔒 Protected by Sniffy escrow · your payment is held, not sent to the seller, until you confirm the bottle arrived as described. How it works ›

Paid in Sniffy: the money is released only after you confirm it arrived, or after the 48-hour inspection window with no dispute. If it never arrives or isn't as described, open a dispute and Sniffy reviews it before any money moves. Shipping is prepaid, tracked and insured.

Not covered: deals paid outside Sniffy (Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, PayPal). Sniffy reviews listing photos; it doesn't authenticate bottles.
